A Cloud Hangs Over New Year’s Eve

"I thought of a small town in Ireland, and the bloodlines and family lines running through, over, under and around it. I thought of how old and hard-wired they must be, I can see them, rusted on, tight and strong. I thought, how does someone break out of that bind, find wire cutters strong enough to slice through? What kind of strength would it take? How would it look?

This piece is a story of resilience, sacrifice and love. No matter where life, gender, society may fling us, love will always be there, in a way, its own bind. The character in this piece has broken out of her bind, but in doing so, creates another.

The driving force for me was the character being flung back into the her old life by a sudden memory, the moment where it meets her new one, on a Bangkok bus.”
